Important Information for 2020 & 2021 travelers
Welcome to a special page during special times. We aim to keep the page updated to provide the newest information on how to travel to and from Iceland in 2020.
Are you a traveler on your way to iceland
There are a few things to keep in mind. Please visit the FAQ section to find the links and information from the Icelandic government.
The best way to travel
In a Camper or Motor Home you are able to avoid crowds. The Icelandic government has issued rules how to travel when you are in Iceland. We are happy about our governments decision to keep all travelers save.
Camp Grounds are open
The campgrounds opened early this year due to the fact that many Icelanders decided to stay in Iceland this year. The government issued rules that apply to tourism this year.
Free COVID test when arriving in Iceland
The Icelandic government offers a free of charge COVID Test upon arrival in Iceland. Children born in 2005 and later do not need to get tested. The test is free until the end of June and after that it will cost approx 100 EUR or 9.000 icelandic Krona (ca. 58 €).
Cook yourself & save money
One of the great things about a camper is that you can cook yourself. You can go shopping in the local stores and profit from far better rates then going to a Restaurant.
Iceland is safe and Quarantine needed
All passengers that arrive in Iceland have to undergo a COVID-19 test or to go for a 14-day quarantine. If you choose the test you only need to go to quarantine for 4-6 days (possible in the Motor Home). After that you are tested again. The benefit of knowing that you are COIVID-19 free and you are entering a safe country brings a peace to our minds.
Our vehicles are rented out 13 days average to 5 -8 customers per year. In a Hotel the guest change daily or 75 – 104 times during the same period. Needless to say a camper is a great way to travel.

Dear Customer, dear Guest
Camper Iceland is a strong brand. Not everybody survived the crisis in 2008 and two volcanic eruptions incl. Eyjafjallajökull to say the least. We follow the tourism standards and our policy is comparable with other brands. Let's get through this crisis together folks!
We understand that this is a difficult time for everybody. It is difficult for you, for our employees, for our family and for the company. Everything that is happening right now was probably not caused by you or us. We must rely on our governments to decide the right thing to do. All we can do is follow these rules and hope for a bright future.
Lately we have been reading much promising news that things are going back to normal. Hence, we recommend to everybody to remain calm, and we hope to see you soon.
On this page we try to gather information from the local government and point out what it means in terms of a booking with us. The information is based on research that we do the web. We cannot be held responsible if our interpretation is wrong or outdated.
Best cancellation conditions on the market
We charge a reservation fee of 290 EUR, no more pre payment needed. You can cancel your booking up to one month before arrival and free of charge by emailing us. The reservation fee gets lost to cover internal expenses. A month before arrival the reservation needs to be paid and cannot be cancelled anymore. We need this time to prepare and assign the vehicle to you.
Arriving in Iceland - Iceland is open
Iceland's borders have remained open to other EU and Schengen states throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but Iceland continues to implement the travel restrictions imposed for the Schengen Area, which are currently in place.
The pre-registration for visiting Iceland. All passengers are required to fill out a pre-registration form, follow hygiene measures and they are encouraged to download and use the COVID-19 app Rakning C-19. The pre-registration form is not a travel authorization form.
Passengers arriving in Iceland on and after 19 August 2020 may choose either to submit to two screening tests for COVID-19, separated by five days’ quarantine until the results of the second test are known, or else not to undergo border screening but instead to spend 14 days in quarantine after arrival. Children born in or after 2005 are exempt from the screening and quarantine requirements, and the same exemption applies to persons who have been certified by the Icelandic health authorities, following a PCR test, as having previously been infected with COVID-19 and have completed a period of isolation, or if they have been shown by antibody measurements to have recovered from COVID-19. Transit passsengers who do not leave the terminal facilities at the border are not required to undergo screening or quarantine.
The first screening test is upon arrival, after which the passengers must go into quarantine for 5-6 days according to the Instructions for home-based quarantine or the Instructions for quarantine for visitors in Iceland.
The second screening test takes place at health care services and it is possible to undergo screening all over the country. Please note the different opening hours. Quarantine is released when a negative result is obtained from the second screening test. A positive result always leads to isolation and the Instructions for persons under home-based isolation must be followed. Medical examination, treatment or medical supervision of notifiable diseases, including COVID-19, is of no cost to the patient. This does not apply to an elective PCR-test for the diagnosis of COVID-19.
The fee for border screening remains unchanged at ISK 9,000 if this is paid in advance when pre-registering; if the screening fee is paid at the point of entry, it is ISK 11,000. No charge is taken for the second screening test.
Please read quarantine instructions for visitors in Iceland. The rules of quarantine apply once you leave the border point until you receive the results from the second test. A positive result, will always require isolation .
During quarantine, you:
may seek necessary health care services by contacting the nearest primary care clinic, on-call services (1700 or +354 544 4113) or emergency services (112) by phone.
may take a walk in areas where few other people are present, but must stay at least 1 meter away from any other pedestrians.
must not have direct contact with persons not part of your own household . When in contact with persons in your household you should pay careful attention to hygiene and attempt keep a distance of 1 meter at all times.
must not use public transport but use of taxis, rental cars and private vehicles is permitted.
must not go for a drive, unless when going from point of entry to your final place of quarantine, or when going to the second screening.
may not visit tourist attractions and may not drive long distances, except if necessary between the point of entry/exit at the border and the site of quarantine.
must not visit restaurants, bars, gyms, swimming pools, cinemas, theaters, attend public or private gatherings of any kind or size, or visit any place where crowds are likely.
must not enter grocery stores, pharmacies or other stores . Delivery services are available in some, but not all, towns.
must not attend school or work .
The Icelandic health authorities cannot accept proof of test results. Those with a previously confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 in Iceland are exempt from quarantine upon their return from travel abroad.
A negative test result does not guarantee that an individual will not later be required to self-quarantine if they have been exposed to infection, e.g. on the flight to Iceland. If visitors are unexpectedly quarantined for contact with a case and do not have accommodations arranged to complete 14 days in quarantine, they can be accommodated in official quarantine facilities.
Please note that violations of quarantine or isolation requirements are subject to fines or enforcement action from the relevant authorities to ensure compliance.

Safe time - Get the non mandatory APP
Contagion tracing is a community affair
The contract tracing app Rakning C-19 is an important link in the chain of response to COVID-19. The app helps to analyse individuals’ travel and trace their movements against those of other people when cases of infection or suspected infection arise.
The more people who download the app, the more useful the information that can be analysed from it. Rakning C-19 is available for Android and iOS devices and is open to all.
Be a strong link in the chain.

HAVING ISSUES: I booked with a travel agency or online broker
Please contact them for further details
Camper Iceland has been in contact with agents all over the world. It seems that the approach is different depending on what country you are from or where the agent is based. Hence, we cannot make any statements in regard to your flights, package deal or any cancellation policies. We recommend contacting the agent directly to find a solution.
HAVING ISSUES: I booked a flight with an airline
Please contact the airline for further instructions
To check the status of your flight or to change the flight we recommend contacting the airline you booked with. If you booked a flight through a travel agent please read the section above.
HAVING ISSUES: I have to cancel the trip - I can't make it
One month before arriving
You can cancel your booking at any time by emailing us. The free cancellation applies to all bookings if cancelled 31 day or earlier before pick up. The reservation fee of 290 EUR covers the internal cost and will not be returned.
If you want to change the dates you have to cancel the reservation and rebook. The lost reservation fee can be refunded 50% when rebooking, please let us know once you have rebooked, so we can apply the discount.
Only if you shorten the trip (arrive later or drop off the vehicle earlier) the sales team can adjust the booking for a small fee.
If you cancel 30 days or earlier to departure (pick up date) we have already prepared and will charge a 100% cancellation fee.
We highly recommend finding another flight solution if your airline have cancelled the flight. If you can't find a solution please contact your travel insurance company to check if it covers a cancellation. If you did not buy a separate travel insurance in your country check with your insurer and credit card company if you have one there.
From our experience an airline will only refine the flight if it can't take place. Sometimes you are offered a coupon or voucher, in a case like that check the local laws and regulations if you have to accept it or not.
Travel Agencies and third party
If you did not book through us please check the agents conditions. Sometimes if you booked a package deal (flight and camper) the travel agency has to refine the whole trip if it cannot take place. However, that depends entirely on the local laws and regulations. Also check with your travel insurance. If you did not buy a separate travel insurance in your country check with your insurer and credit card company if you have one there.
